Welcome
This site is the professional home of David Profitt.
I have long held an interest in both education and psychology. Leaning towards psychology, I earned my undergraduate degree in 1995 from BGSU, Cum Laude. Since then, I have held various positions, including working with higher functioning adult DD populations, as a teacher of a unique grouping of school aged students, and currently as a school psychologist with Mad River Local Schools. With the DD population, I became convinced of the principle that everybody has the potential for unquenchable growth. With the student populations, I have realized the need for well educated, dedicated persons in our schools who not only have an interest in education, but also in psychology for healthy and productive living. As our world continues to grow more competitive, less sure, and fast paced, this need to assure the psychological and educational well being of students will grow.
I received my Masters of Science in Education with a concentration in School Psychology from the University of Dayton in December, 2003 and my Education Specialist degree in School Psychology in July, 2006.
I feel that a school psychologist should be a transformative presence within the school system. He should be a visionary who excites his colleagues to become committed to the school’s mission in creating a better tomorrow for our children. The school psychologist must be an effective leader who thinks clearly, analyzes quickly and is skilled in dealing with conflict while serving as both advocate and negotiator. With an open door policy to administration, teachers, students and parents, an effective psychologist will balance the requirements of the district with the needs of educators, students, and their families.
The purpose of this site is to give parents and families information regarding the special education process, as seen in my work and in many schools. Brief information describing the assessments commonly used and the overall process of assisting students can be found in the resources section. Additional resources are found in the Other Resources list on the right side of every page.
